Happy Valentine’s Day stepmammas! Of course we should be showing the love to our families all year long but I like to use Valentine’s Day as extra motivation to make my love loud and clear. And what sweeter way to proclaim your love than with cookies?! This year I am making pink heart shaped sugar cookies filled with a Mexican secret weapon: dulce de leche. It’s basically crack.
What you need:
Log of Pillsbury sugar cookie dough
Red food dye
Dulce de leche (I recommend the GOYA squeeze tube)
All purpose flour
What you need to do:
Add about ten drops of the red food dye to the log of cookie dough and mix it up with your hands (use gloves if you can because days later my hands are still red!)
Roll out the dough using lots of flour because this stuff is sticky
Using a knife, trace out as many heart shapes as you can
Transfer the hearts to an ungreased cookie sheet
Squeeze a glob of dulce de leche in the middle of half the cookies
Use the other halves to cover the dulce de leche drenched cookies to make little cookie sandwiches
Use your fork to pinch together the two cookie halves (like a pie)
Put these yummy little treats into an oven at 350 degrees for about 8 minutes
After letting them cool for 5-10 minutes, sprinkle the cookies with some confectioners sugar to make them picture perfect!
Call down the kids and enjoy!
